Coconut in Karnataka is a year-round crop rather than a short harvest. Tumakuru leads the state by area and production, while Mandya, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru and Chitradurga form the wider belt that keeps processors and export packers supplied through the calendar.
The Coconut Development Board's 2024 Karnataka profile records 705.11 thousand hectares under coconut, 5,949.46 million nuts in annual output and productivity of 8,438 nuts per hectare. Those are state figures, useful for sizing the supply base but not a promise about any individual farm or shipment.
For export, maturity and handling decide the product: tender nuts move as fresh drinking coconuts; mature nuts go as husked or semi-husked fruit, copra, desiccated coconut and oil. Lots are specified by maturity, size, husk treatment and intended destination before packing.
The inland Karnataka coconut belt combines red sandy loam and irrigated gardens with a warm tropical growing cycle. Around Tumakuru and Mandya, managed water and mature palms make year-round grading and dispatch practical.
